Over 800,000 Government Employees Benefit from MDNIY's Yoga Break Programme

Nov 14, 2024  Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Honourable Union Minister of State for the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Govt of India, awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) for the outstanding performance of its ‘Yoga Break at Workplace’ (Y-Break) course. 

The award, received by Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, Director of MDNIY, was presented during the Valediction Ceremony of the National Learning Week (NLW) – Karmayogi Saptah, held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Y-Break course emerged as the top-performing programme on the iGOT Karmayogi Bharat Platform, with more than 868,094 government officials completing the course to date, underscoring its popularity and health benefits among working professionals.


The Y-Break course, crafted by MDNIY, offers a practical, five-minute Yoga regimen tailored to support government officials’ well-being during the workday. Designed to be easily incorporated into daily routines, the programme includes simple Yoga asanas, Pranayamas, and relaxation techniques that can be practiced at the workstation, helping employees alleviate stress, enhance focus, and improve productivity. 

Dr. Samagandi thrusting on the utility of the Y-Break, stated, “The tremendous success of the Y-Break programme reflects its significant impact on government officials nationwide. This achievement underscores our commitment to embedding wellness within the workplace, equipping public servants with practices that foster both physical and mental resilience. Y-Break helps to de-stress, refresh, and refocus in the working environment, which in turn boosts work efficiency.”

The iGOT Karmayogi platform aims to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of government officials through continuous learning. With training modules ranging from technical skills to personal wellness, iGOT offers government employees accessible learning opportunities that address the varied demands of public service roles. The success of the Y-Break course on this platform exemplifies the value of wellness-oriented training, setting a precedent for a holistic approach to workforce development that prioritises employee health as a foundation for effective governance.
